GeoTek
Engineering, Inc. owns and operates a SIMCO Earthprobe 200, a
truck-mounted direct push drill rig. The rig is mounted on a Dodge RAM
2500. The direct push rig is equipped with a hydraulic hammer/sinker
drill with separate pull up latch (up to 2500 blows/min), an 18 HP air
cooled gas engine with electric start, and a hydraulic feed system for
hammer, drill head and mast movement control. The rig's mast is capable
of tilt at any angle from horizontal to vertical, of swivel up to
8" left or right, and of pivot up to 20o either side of vertical.
As an additional feature, the rig is equipped with an auger drill head,
which allows conducting auger borings using the same machine. |
| The Earthprobe 200 is a
flexible, compact, and reliable rig that has many application advantages
over conventional rigs. Direct push represents a cost-effective method
of fast and accurate collection of subsurface information when sample
collection is required for shallow to moderate depths in soft soils.
Both soil and groundwater samples can be collected. Direct push
operations take much less time than conventional drive sample borings
because repositioning of the rig for a new hole is simpler and faster
than with a conventional rig. |
 |
| The direct push
method also offers significant advantages compared with conventional
drive sample borings when locations are inaccessible for large trucks. A
direct push rig can also be remounted on an ATV if access to rough
terrain is required. This machine is also very effective and
advantageous when working in low overhead environment such as basements
with overhead as low as 8'. The rig can be mounted on a special skid to
get through the 3' wide doors. |
